Retirement Apartments at Boat Lane Court
The Concept of Very Sheltered Housing
The idea of Very Sheltered Housing is to enable retired people to retain their independence for the whole of their lives if they so wish.
This is achieved by careful attention to the design of the buildings which, amongst other things, makes all the communal facilities and all the rooms in the private dwellings easily accessible to everyone including wheelchair users. We believe this makes Boat Lane Court the ideal retirement home solution.
Similarly, the services are much greater than is usual in sheltered housing. There is a team of Duty Managers one of whom is always present on site, day and night, although none of them lives permanently on the premises. This is one of the key differences between sheltered and very sheltered housing.
In addition, domestic assistance is provided by a team of Housekeeping Assistants. Every owner pays for 2½ hours domestic assistance each week, included in the service charge. Of this 1½ hours is provided in the owner's private dwelling and the other hour is at the disposal of the Duty Managers for communal purposes. The savings from any unused hours will automatically accumulate in the fund for future maintenance.
However, this amount of domestic assistance can be increased as necessary. It has to be paid for in addition to the basic service charge but, if this would cause hardship; advice is available as to how this cost can be met.
